Quickstart Guide
This walkthrough guides you through creating a new application, configuring your model provider, executing turns, and previewing the running app live in DeviceLab.
Step 1: Create a New Project
- Launch Caide and click Create App in the left sidebar.
- Select your immutable framework target:
- React Native (Expo): Mobile apps running on iOS, Android, and web.
- Flutter: High-performance cross-platform mobile apps.
- Website (Next.js): Modern web applications with React 19.
- Blank: Unconstrained backend or script directory.
- Name your project (e.g.
zen-crypto-tracker) and choose a local directory. - Caide boots your local environment, installs exact dependencies, and spins up the local dev-server automatically.
Step 2: Configure Your Model Key
- Open Settings (gear icon in bottom left) → Providers.
- Choose one of the seven providers:
- OpenRouter: paste an OpenRouter API key for the widest model catalog.
- OpenCode Console: paste an OpenCode Console API key for the paid Console catalog.
- Caide Agent: create a key on the dashboard and paste it here to start the 7-day / 500-credit trial.
- ChatGPT / Codex: use your official ChatGPT/Codex login — no API key.
- Claude Code: use your official Claude Code login/CLI — no Anthropic API key.
- DeepSeek: paste a DeepSeek API key.
- Google: paste a Google AI API key for Gemini models.
- BYOK keys are encrypted immediately; the desktop seals the encryption key in the OS keychain.
Step 3: Align on an App Blueprint
In the chat composer, type your high-level project vision:
"Build a minimalist mobile crypto portfolio tracker with dark mode, live price charting, and a transactions ledger."
Before writing files, Caide responds with an interactive App Blueprint:
- Screens & Routes: Proposed navigation hierarchy (
(tabs)/index.tsx,(tabs)/portfolio.tsx,modal/transaction.tsx). - Data & State Model: Zustand / React Context schemas.
- 3-Question Survey: The agent asks 3 focused architectural questions (e.g., choice of charting library, mock vs live API endpoint, persistent storage mechanism).
Click Approve Blueprint once you are satisfied with the technical plan.
Step 4: Stream Turns & Inspect Live Preview
- Caide begins code generation, creating components, styling with Tailwind / NativeWind, and installing dependencies.
- In the Right Dock, open DeviceLab:
- The embedded iPhone 16 frame hot-reloads the changes live.
- Click and interact directly with the preview UI.
- View live console logs and network requests in the Console tab.
- Scan the displayed QR Code with Expo Go to test the running app simultaneously on your physical phone!
